After a century of mining, Pikeview Quarry in Colorado Springs closed and efforts began to heal the 125-acre site known as “The Scar.” Near-vertical slopes, denuded soils and an arid climate demanded innovative solutions. Hydraulically applied erosion control and biotic soil treatments like ProGanics® DUAL™ and ProMatrix™ EFM stabilized slopes, improved soil health and accelerated vegetation growth. Despite steep terrain and monsoon weather, rapid vegetative cover was achieved, transforming a barren landscape into a living model for large-scale reclamation.
